Shire of Buckland Cross

Welcome!

Bucks County, PA

Buckland Cross is located in the Southern Region of the East Kingdom of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). In modern geographic terms we represent Bucks County in Pennsylvania.

We have many activities in our fair Shire: fencing and archery; weaving, embroidery and sewing; book arts; leatherworking; armoring; glass bead making and so much more! We participate in the Village Faire at Wrightstown each September, and frequent day and camping events in the region.

The SCA is a practical history society, recreating the arts and skills of pre-17th century Europe. While dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, you can experience tournaments, royal courts, feasts, and dancing. You also have the opportunity to learn and practice ancient arts and skills — calligraphy, cooking, armoring, metalworking, carpentry, and needlework (to name just a few) — within an all-ages social group. The SCA is a great place to make friends and learn transferable skills in our adult and youth programs.

Newcomer?

Perhaps you met us at a demo, perhaps you fell down the rabbit hole of research that is the internet. However you’ve made your way here, please know you are welcome! There are many resources available to help you learn more about the SCA and how to feel more at home at your first few events. First and foremost is the office of the Chatelaine. This person is tasked with helping new folks navigate their way: to meeting people with similar interests, to making or borrowing their first garb (costumes), to understanding what is going on their first time at Court. You can reach the Chatelaine by sending an email, or asking to be introduced at your first meeting or event. Your next best resource is one of the first the Chatelaine will show you – the Society’s Newcomer Portal. Take a look around, find inspiration, get ideas, and ask questions! Next, join our mail list. Join in the conversation and let’s get to know each other. Finally check out the Resources section and Posts. We look forward to meeting you!
