Virtual Crown A&S Championships
Due to COVID-19 the 2021 Crown’s A&S Championships will be held virtually in January 2021! While running this online will present some challenges, it also creates many opportunities, such as greater access by the wider populace to view entries, more time for judges to discuss with entrants and each other, no limit on how many people can display, and the option to enter/display items that cannot easily be transported. Our staff will be assisting every step of the way to ensure broad access regardless of background through a variety...

We are hoping this will give our Youth a way to stay engaged even while we are unable to meet in person. We are in search of content and lessons for this site. These lessons can be written content, things like instruction sheets, recipes, etc., that will be posted as downloadable PDFs, and...

read moreThe future of online A&S Classes
The MoAS office has been hosting online classes for about three months now. While this started as an emergency measure to help maintain SCA connections during the start of physical distancing, many people have suggested to us that continuing with these classes long term would be desirable, especially since the kingdom now has a YouTube Channel that can host content. As a result, we have worked to develop a written plan for how our office will schedule, monitor and assist with online classes on a continuing basis. You can find that information...

Question for the MoAS Office: “There’s no one that does what I do. Why should I even bother?” Have you heard a friend say something like this? Maybe you’ve even said it yourself? “I don’t have fun with A&S activities because no one does what I do.” Guess what. I’ve said this myself, too. And it frustrated me a good deal. That feeling of being alone. That feeling of not having any help. After some time I learned to re-frame how I looked at it. That helped me a good deal to be less frustrated. That helped me to feel less different. That...

The MOAS office would like to share a Q&A post regarding dates for A&S projects. Thank you for reading, and have a happy new year! Question for the MoAS Office: “I found a great example of a “thing” that I want to try to recreate, but it is dated to a bit after 1600. Can I still use this example as a source of inspiration in the context of A&S?” This is a good question, but one with more layers than artisans might, at first, realize. To start, please remember that it is no one’s job to police the art...
