This is my first time teaching a group, so we’ll see how it all goes, wish me luck!
First, here are some photos of what bobbin lace looks like and what the process looks like (all mine; the first three are period, the wire ones are kinda-period-ish, the last three are more modern). You’ve probably seen me doing it at an event – it’s a sort of weaving where you’re forming the “loom” out of pins on the printed-out design as you go and you have a lot of freedom to change which threads are doing which job and in what pattern. It looks complicated but it mostly isn’t really! I find it way less complicated than tablet-weaving, since I can see exactly what I’m doing and what is supposed to go where. Hopefully I can get some other people to that point!
I’m planning on working from this period lace beginner sampler by Mistress Katherina Weyssin of Lochac: https://ildhafn.lochac.sca.org/node/503
I can bring full equipment for 6-10 people depending on how my styrofoam cutting goes; I have all the basics, but if you can easily bring some normal small-headed steel pins and some bits of tightly-woven fabric (20×20 inches or so?) to cover the styrofoam pillows with, that would be helpful.
You can take the temporary styrofoam pillows home if you want, and I can sell some of my extra bobbins but might not have enough of those for everyone; I’ll of course give you links for where to get your own supplies if you want to do that later.
It would be great if people would comment here to let me know they’re coming, so I know how many students to expect and how much stuff to set up! (And some extras, of course)
